Wellness exams

Regular checkups to track your child's growth, development, and overall health. Covered throughout childhood.

Medical history (up to age 17)

A review of your child's health history at each visit to catch concerns early. Covered through age 17.

Height, weight, and BMI measurements (up to age 17)

Tracking height, weight, and BMI to watch growth and prevent obesity. Covered at wellness visits up to age 17.

Behavioral assessments (up to age 17)

Behavior check-ins to spot any emotional or behavioral concerns early. Covered through age 17.

Developmental screening (under age 3)

Screenings to make sure babies and toddlers are developing on track. Covered at well-child visits under age 3.

Autism screening (at 18 and 24 months)

A quick check at 18 and 24 months to look for signs of autism. Covered for all young children.

Vision screening

Routine vision tests to catch vision problems early. Covered throughout childhood.

Hearing screening (newborns)

A hearing test for newborns to detect hearing loss early. Covered for all newborns.

Depression screening

Screening children and teens for signs of depression and connecting them to help if needed.

Tobacco use prevention

Counseling for school-age children to help prevent tobacco use.

Alcohol, tobacco, and drug use assessments

Discussions with adolescents about alcohol, tobacco and drugs to prevent misuse.

Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP/Tdap)

Vaccines to protect against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, given on schedule in childhood and adolescence.

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)

A vaccine to protect against Hib infections like meningitis for babies and young children.

Hepatitis A

A vaccine to prevent hepatitis A infection, given to children on schedule.

Hepatitis B

A vaccine series to prevent hepatitis B infection, given starting at birth.

Human papillomavirus (HPV)

A vaccine that protects against HPV, which can cause certain cancers later in life. Recommended for preteens and teens.

Inactivated poliovirus (IPV)

A vaccine to protect against polio, given on schedule during childhood.

Influenza (flu)

A yearly flu shot to protect against influenza. Recommended for children every year.

Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)

A vaccine to protect against measles, mumps and rubella, given on schedule in childhood.

Meningococcal disease

A vaccine to protect against meningococcal disease. Recommended for preteens and teens.

Pneumococcal disease

A vaccine to help prevent pneumococcal infections like pneumonia for babies and young children.

Rotavirus

A vaccine to protect against severe diarrhea caused by rotavirus, given to infants.

Varicella (chickenpox)

A vaccine to protect against chickenpox, given on schedule if your child hasn’t had it yet.

Blood screening (general)

A general blood test to check for anemia or other conditions, done as needed.

Bilirubin concentration screening

A newborn test for jaundice to check bilirubin levels, covered at birth.

Hemoglobinopathies or sickle cell screening

A blood test for sickle cell disease or other inherited conditions, done at birth.

Hypothyroidism screening

A newborn test for hypothyroidism to prevent growth and mental delays, done at birth.

Hearing screening

A hearing test for babies to check for hearing loss that is done at birth.

Gonorrhea preventive medication

Eye medication for newborns to prevent gonorrhea infection that is done at birth.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) screening

A newborn test for PKU to prevent serious health issues that is done at birth.

Iron supplements

Iron supplements for babies six to 12 months old who are at risk for anemia. Supplements help prevent iron deficiency and support healthy growth during this stage.

Fluoride chemoprevention supplements

Fluoride drops or tablets for kids without fluoridated water to prevent cavities.

Fluoride varnish

Fluoride varnish applied to teeth to prevent cavities — covered for kids when teeth come in.

Obesity screening and counseling

Checking weight and offering support if your child is overweight. Covered through age 17.

Lead screening

A blood test for lead if your child is at risk of exposure.

Hematocrit or hemoglobin screening

A simple blood test to check for anemia.

Tuberculin testing

A test for tuberculosis if your child is at risk — covered through age 17.

Hepatitis B screening

A blood test for hepatitis B if your adolescent childen (ages 11 to 17) is at high risk.

HIV screening

A blood test for HIV for teens at high risk, covered as needed.

Sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention counseling and screening

Counseling and tests for STIs for adolescents at higher risk, covered as needed.

Cervical dysplasia screening

A screening for cervical dysplasia for sexually active young women, covered as needed.

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)

Includes medication and the required services before starting:

  • HIV testing
  • Hepatitis B and C testing
  • Creatinine testing and kidney function tests
  • Pregnancy testing
  • STI screening and counseling
  • Adherence counseling to support proper use
